Replacesthe belief that 'we just lost a few events' in a high-throughput metrics pipeline is a sampling artifact.
The same lost-update race that makes a non-atomic shared counter under-report increments makes a Prometheus client counter under-report events. The mechanism is identical; only the consequence shifts from 'wrong final value' to 'wrong dashboard'.
